I Just Wanted to Publish My Story My Way...
Before you could search google for an author coach. Before print-on-demand existed. Before any of this was easy, I was a single mother, living paycheck to paycheck, printing physical copies of my manuscript and mailing them out one by one, hoping someone would say yes.
Most of them didn’t even respond.The ones who did said no.
And then — finally — someone said yes. Except the yes came with conditions. They wanted me to change the activism component and soften the edges. They asked me to make Tamia’s story less of what it needed to be and more of what they were comfortable publishing.
Tamia Santiago was an Afro-Latina who jumped off the porch too soon. A girl who didn’t fully know who she was yet, making life choices from that place...and slowly, over time, finding her way toward something better. It was a coming-of-age story. It was my story. And I wasn’t willing to let someone else decide how it got told.
So I walked away, and LexxiKhan Presents Publishing was born.
I built it for one reason: to tell my story, my way. I had no idea what it would become. After I published and people saw what was possible when you refused to let the gatekeepers win, they started asking me to do the same for them. One author. Then another. Then a CEO. Then an athlete. Then a school district. Then another publishing house asking us to manage theirs!
What started as one girl’s refusal to be silenced became a full publishing infrastructure serving some of the most influential people in the world.
As it grew, I knew I couldn’t scale it alone. My mentor, who later became one of our clients, William Moxey, pushed me toward the local African American Chamber of Commerce. There I connected with Joseph Simmons and his program that is helping prepare to scale to our first million dollars. The girl from Honduras who had no idea what she was doing was suddenly surrounded by people jumping over themselves to help her build something bigger than she’d ever had the freedom to dream. And it keeps growing.
The DMs. The emails. Authors wanting to be published. Writers wanting paid opportunities. Publishing houses wanting infrastructure. School districts wanting curriculum. Investors wanting imprints. All of it, every single bit of it, is the result of one decision: radical faith in yourself and in your art. That’s what we exist to help other people do now.

I started this company with no investors, no connections, and no roadmap.
What I had was a story and the absolute refusal to believe that the only people who deserved to tell theirs were the ones traditional publishing decided to let through the door.
I've been a writer my whole life. I was winning awards before I could drive. I was hand-binding books and selling them before I really knew what I was doing. I wasn't waiting for permission — because I understood early that permission was the trap.
What I didn't understand was how many other people were waiting. How many authors, brilliant, necessary, urgent authors, were sitting on stories that could change someone's life, waiting for the right moment, the right money, the right sign that they were allowed.
